The appetite for riskier assets improved on easing fears over a fallout from the Omicron coronavirus variant. This is a positive signal for European currency. An early South African study suggested reduced risks of severe disease in people infected with the Omicron variant versus the Delta one, as well as a lower need for hospitalisation, which a study by London's Imperial College also found. There are signs that Omicron is less likely to lead to hospitalization, and a U.S. Federal Drug Administration official said that data indicated that both Merck's and Pfizer's COVID-19 anti-viral pills are effective against the variant.
